The music industry lately seems to be embracing the motto of “the stranger, the better”, following the example of artists like Lady Gaga, Sia, and Ke$ha. Up and coming musician Dylan Gardner looks like he’s trying to break that mold with his new single Let’s get Started, a sweet and simple love song.
The song starts off with a catchy, easy to follow hook that’s straightforward and light, with a few notes of grounding bass to keep your attention on the melody. The lyrics make you smile as Gardener lists the qualities of his newest love, all of them innocent and fun. Maybe they lack a little substance, but they’re all age group friendly.
Listening close, the song has more than a little Country sounding influence to its rhythm, like KE$ha’s Timber, but without the twerking. The video is much the same, and looks like it took some inspiration from Bruno Mars’ Uptown Funk- a spiffy looking Gardner performing the song on an old school stage with a nostalgic mike set up that seems to be coming a theme in videos lately.
On the whole, Let’s Get Started is a wholesome, simple song that speaks to new, sugary love and is a fresh breath of clean air for the top 40 charts.
